How do I determine the dimensions for my curtain?

To ensure that your new fly screen fits perfectly, it is very important to measure the door frame correctly. Fortunately, it's not that complicated, especially if you follow the steps below:

Step 1 - In the frame or on the frame?

Most fly screens can be installed either on the door frame (during the day) or in the door frame (during the day).

  • Sleeve, luxury and aluminium curtains are hung on a rail. This can be attached to or in the window frame.
  • Bead and plastic curtains are hung on a hanging cassette. This cassette can be hung on or in the window frame.
  • Cattails are hung on a hanging rail. This rail can only be hung on the window frame.

Note: In all cases, you will need to drill holes to hang the curtain. Please note this if you have aluminium or plastic window frames.

Step 2a - In the frame

Measure the width of the frame

Close the door and measure the distance between the sides of the door frame. Hold the tape measure between the jambs on the inside of the frame.

Good to know: Not all curtains are available in special sizes. In this case, choose a standard size that is wider than the measured distance. You can then remove a piece yourself.

Measure the length (height) of the frame

Place your measuring tape or tape measure on the inside at the top of the door frame and pull it out to the threshold. Make sure that you hold the tape measure or measuring tape straight. It is often best to measure in pairs.

Good to know: You can easily shorten many of our standard fly curtains yourself. Check whether this is also the case with your fly curtain.

Step 2b - On the frame

Measure the width of your window frame and add 2 centimetres.

Close the door and measure the distance between the sides of the door frame. Hold the tape measure between the jambs on the inside of the frame. Add 2 centimetres to this. This prevents gaps at the sides.

Please note that not all curtains can be made to measure. In this case, select a standard size that is wider than the measured distance.

Example:
Your door frame is 90 centimetres wide on the inside.
Then enter 90 + 2 = 92 centimetres in the desired width.

Measure the length of your window frame

Place your measuring tape or tape measure on the inside at the top of the door frame or on the ceiling and pull it out to the door threshold. Make sure that you keep the tape measure or measuring tape straight. It is often best to measure in pairs.

Note: Would you like to hang the rail on the frame? Then you need at least 4 centimetres of space. You need this space to position the hanging rail. Do not add the 4 centimetres to the total.

Good to know: You can easily shorten many of our standard fly curtains yourself. Check whether this is also the case with your fly curtain.

Example:
The length between the threshold and the ceiling is 243 centimetres, then enter 243 centimetres for the desired length.
